The Stone of Destiny Scone Palace. In late April 2010, palace staff and police are confused (havnee got a clue!) as the stone was switched with a fake, they got away with the brass plaque: “A replica of the stone upon which the Kings of Scots were crowned on Moot Hill until 1296 when Edward I took the stone to Westminster Abbey.” Tayside Detectives stumbled a reply; “experts confirmed it is a granite stone, I can't comment on the investigation which is ongoing."  But a Perthshire man knows the identity of the villain (or hero)... over a few pints, he was told a story that sounded like a ripping yarn (Monty Python here we come). In 1998, he was fishing in the River Tay near Scone Palace when he hooked part of a large stone, going back later to have a better look at it and convinced it was the real Stone of Destiny. It was big, black and shiny stone, he agreed that the stone might be the real one. Legend has it, monks hid the real stone in 1296, many believe the genuine Stone of Scone never left Scotland. Former Perth Provost (Mayor), insisted the real stone was “quite safe”. It was previously at Dull Church near Aberfeldy and only two people knew where it was and he was one of them,” he said. A Scone Palace spokesman said Lord Stormont declined to comment. He hasnee a scoobie either! So what do we think? Most Scots know the real stone never left Scotland, rumoured to be in Perthshire somewhere, the one at Edinburgh castle is a fake to keep tourists happy, previously allowing the sassunachs to believe they had it.
